It is important that visitors to the House use the signposted Hylands House entrance from the A414 dual carriageway (London Road). Please follow the road through the park to use the car park located next to the House.

There is no vehicle access to this car park from the Park only entrance, on the A414 single carriageway (Writtle bypass).

From the M25 take junction 28 onto the A12 towards Chelmsford and Colchester. From the A12 take junction 15 onto the A414 towards Chelmsford and Harlow.

The entrances for Hylands House and Park are clearly signposted from this road. When driving through the grounds, please respect other park users, use your hazard warning lights and keep to the 10mph speed limit.

The most direct route when walking to Hylands from Chelmsford city centre is via Waterhouse Lane, past the Widford Industrial Estate roundabouts.

Please be aware the distance from Chelmsford Rail Station to Hylands Park is approximately 3.5 miles along this route.

Visitors can also walk to the park from Writtle village, taking the signed route along Paradise Road and through the underpass.
 
To walk from Galleywood, follow the signs for the Centenary Circle Footpath, and then cross the A414 to reach Hylands.

Visitors to Hylands can access the park by bicycle from three main entrances:
 
Via the Hylands House entrance from the A414 dual carriageway (London Road) - you can cycle along the A414, but you will need to cross over the road if you are coming from Chelmsford.

Via the Hylands Park entrance from the A414 single carriageway (Writtle bypass) - take the signed route from Writtle village, along Paradise Road and through the underpass. The signed route directs cyclists through the park to within easy reach of the House.

Via a new cycle route entering the park at Repton's Gate near St. Mary's Church.
 
On arrival, bicycles can be parked securely in the cycle racks in the car park next to the House.
