In the Summer of 1999 the second item was purchased, a quality French 19th century clock garniture (with two associated candelabra). The clock’s dial is ormolu, a gilded bronze and is set with enamel plaques in the French manner. A bell is struck to give the chimes and is stamped H. & R. Paris and bears the hallmark of S. Marti. The clock has good quality movement running for 14 days and striking on a bell.
The strike is controlled by a "count wheel" and regulation is by turning the square set at 12 O'Clock, a method invented by "Brocot", the pendulum - which is original - has no means of regulation.
The clock garniture adorns the mantlepiece of the Drawing Room.
